Once is a love song to Dublin so it’s no surprise that the cast of the award-winning show feel such a connection to the city that inspired it. Now playing at the Olympia Theatre until August 27th, the smash-hit show is wowing audiences with its stunning music and gorgeous love story.
In a very successful collaboration with Fáilte Ireland, this short film features three of the cast sharing what they love about Dublinhttps://youtu.be/9tWNfRLTTFc
Sam Cieri (Guy) takes to his bike and enjoys the cycle routes around Dublin’s canals; Megan Riordan (Girl) takes the short journey from the city to enjoy the stunning scenery at Howth Head, which also happens to be the setting for one of the key scenes in the show. Phelim Drew (Billy) visits Marsh’s library and shares his memories of visiting there with his father, the legendary Ronnie Drew from The Dubliners.
Based on the movie sensation of the same name, Once is a funny, moving and life-affirming love story – and it’s also a love song to Dublin. The city is a palpable presence throughout and the extraordinary cast of actor-musicians in this home-grown production, produced by Landmark Productions at the Olympia Theatre, have found themselves charmed by our capital, as the short film demonstrates.
Producer of Once at the Olympia Theatre, Anne Clarke of Landmark Productions commented:
Once is a show that has Dublin at its heart. It celebrates music, love and this city that inspired it. We’re delighted to partner with Fáilte Ireland to share what our extraordinary cast of actor-musicians love about Dublin, and all it has to offer. This tender love story, about two musicians who meet on a Dublin street, has inspired countless people to follow their dreams. Through this collaboration with Fáilte Ireland we hope that this short film will encourage viewers to experience all aspects of the city. We’re thrilled to be performing this award-winning show in one of Dublin’s most beautiful and historic theatres, the Olympia Theatre, and it’s such a joy to be sharing this love song with audiences from home and abroad.
Marketing Director, Fáilte Ireland, Noel John McLoughlin;
People relate to places and destinations on an emotional level and therefore our collaboration with ‘Once’ makes perfect sense in terms of presenting a very engaging and appealing view of the capital city. As the talented cast tell their personal stories and what it is they love about Dublin – all set to the Oscar-winning song ‘Falling Slowly’ – the video wonderfully showcases the breadth and depth of everything Dublin has to offer. This collaboration has given us a fantastic opportunity to partner with an internationally recognised brand and to promote ‘Dublin A Breath of Fresh Air’ in a very authentic way with the help of the cast of ‘Once’.
Once also offers a timely reminder that Dublin is a music city, one whose legacy stretches back centuries. It’s a place that inspired Glen Hansard to write the songs that make Once resonate with so many of those who see it. It was here where he honed his art and where the show’s most emblematic Oscar-winning song, ‘Falling Slowly’, was first fashioned.
Once is about the power of music and following your dreams, wherever they may take you. Seeing it at home in Dublin is very special. Now playing at the Olympia Theatre, Dublin, until August 27.
